How to effectively add your site to The Shuffle! List... |
Web site owners are to add their site to The Official Shuffle! List™ based on two factors:
Category and Updated Content. These classifications do not apply
to the Web site as a whole, but to the page of site that will become the shuffled
page, or what we will refer to as the Shuffle! Web Page (SWP). |
As each Web site is unique, they are all classified accordingly based on their
size and traffic. |
Consider a very large Photography site with an above average level of traffic per
day. This Web site would most-likely consist of pages such as: Newest
Photos,
Popular Photos, Photo of the Day. |
The Shuffle! List has a different classification
for each one of these sections... |
Newest Photos |
– Category: Arts & Photos
– Content Updated: Hourly |
Popular Photos |
– Category: Popular Media
– Content Updated: Weekly |
Photo of the Day |
– Category: Arts & Photos
– Content Updated: Daily |
The chances of a Shuffler browsing or being interested in the Arts & Photos
category in the same sitting as the Popular Media category are slim. They
will visit one or the other based on their mood. Or, one day they will just decide
to browse content they have never seen before. |
Here's how that works for different Shufflers... |
I'm shuffling through the
Arts & Photos category... |
This Shuffler will end up at either the Newest Photos, or the
Photo of the Day, or may never see either page. This depends on other
pages which might come before them in the Shuffle! List. These may end up being
pages that have captured the Shuffler's attention to cause them to stop shuffling. |
I'm shuffling through the Popular Media category... |
This Shuffler may end up seeing the Popular Photos page. Again,
this is based on factors such as (1) how long they are shuffling or (2) if pages
come before it which make them stop shuffling. |
I'm only interested in new content...
So you'll find me shuffling 'Sites Updated: Hourly' |
These types of Shufflers would end up seeing the Newest Photos
page, but will never see the other two pages. Why? Because they're not interested
in them. All they're looking for is content they've never seen before, and that
could be any type of Web site. It works the same for the Daily type of
Updated Content. In the scenario above, the Shuffler will end up seeing the
Photo of the Day page and will not see the other two pages. Again,
this could be the Video of the Day, or a Daily Puzzle,
Blog, Cartoon, etc. You never know where you'll
end up when shuffling by how often a page gets updated, because it's not based on
the site's Category. |
"What gets Internet users to start shuffling?" |
Once they try it, we all know that it's all about the first impression, and if your Web page ends
up being the first page they Shuffle! to, then you or your company will be the one making that first
impression. But beyond that, if their most recent shuffling experience was a positive one, then they'll
be back soon enough. |
So why did they stop shuffling anyway? Well, you have to remember that when a user
stops shuffling, that's a good thing, that means they found something they like. Something grasped their
attention and they know that they wouldn't have found that something unless they were using the Shuffle! Navigator. |
Internet users have long been surfing the Web, quickly getting all the information
they ever wanted at their fingertips, or getting entertained by visiting the Web
site of their choice. Well what if they're on the Internet not searching for anything
specific, but just want to be entertained? |
The Shuffle! List takes them to the places on the Internet that they probably never knew
existed. Web sites that offer information or services they were not searching for, but
may be interested in. These might end up being Web sites that entertain
them in fresh new ways they didn't expect. |
Shufflers are guaranteed that they will find something that entertains them, and in turn,
will cause them to STOP shuffling. Will your Web page be the one that makes them stop? |
